This canned food by Artemis is one of three flavors offered by the brand that can give your pet an interesting alternative to the usual kibble. This chicken flavor is made from a minimal list of healthy ingredients and fully supplemented with vitamins and minerals. It can be used as a mixer and topper or for complete feeding since it contains all the elements necessary for a nutritional diet. Wet food is not only more appetizing to a picky eater, it is easier to eat for an older dog that might have dental problems.

Product Overview

Review of the ingredients show that Artemis Fresh Mix Chicken canned food is made with chicken as its primary ingredient with other protein contributions made by ocean fish and peas. It may have been nicer to see a named fish species rather than the more vague term, but this is a quality source of protein. Carrots, peas, and potatoes are added for nutrients, fiber, and probably for food consistency as well. Guar gum is present as a thickener to add in the canning process and to improve the consistency of the food. Though it is possible that some dogs may be allergic to it, brewers yeast is a good source of protein and nutrients.

The food contains a full spectrum of vitamin and mineral supplements so that you can be sure that your dog is getting all the appropriate nutrients. When feeding your dog a new kind of food, keep an eye on his condition to see if the food agrees with his system. Keeping your pet at a healthy weight is important for his overall health, since dogs can be subject to some of the same metabolic diseases, like diabetes, that people are. Begin by feeding the recommended amounts and increase or decrease how much he eats if you start seeing a notable gain or loss of weight. Healthy dogs are lean and athletic and should have plenty of energy.

At first glance the protein and fat levels may seem to be rather low but you must keep in mind that these are based on weight. Wet food naturally contains a high water content, and analysis based on the dry weight of the food would reveal these percentages to be much higher.

It is recommended to feed 3/4 to 1-1/4 cans per 15 lbs of body weight per day for adults, up to twice that amount for puppies, and up to three times that amount for pregnant or lactating bitches. A 30 lb adult dog would consume about 14 cans of this food per week.

This product seems to be a healthy food that your dog will probably love, since most dogs enjoy wet foods more than dry kibble. Other flavors are also available that may increase flavor interest for your pet and encourage even those who seem to pick at their food.

The Artemis Company is located in California, but there is no specific information on their website about where their foods are manufactured.
